2011 Macau GP: Rain Forces Qualifying To Be Postponed Again
The Macau pitlane at 7am local time. Not nice
Update: The qualifying session planned for today will now not take place due to F3 and WTCC people launching themselves at the scenery. If the track remains dry, there will be a qualifying session at 7.15am local tomorrow (Sat) and the race will run to schedule at 3.30pm.
Persistent rain has forced Macau Grand Prix organisers to call off the already rescheduled qualifying session today as conditions are far too treacherous on the 3.8-mile roads circuit. It is hoped qualifying will go ahead at 4.30pm local (GMT +8).
Event regulations stipulate bikes will not run in the rain plus not many, if any, teams have wet tyres to use anyway. This latest cancellation comes on the back of the first session being called off yesterday due to wet weather.
Riders have so far only had one hour of dry practice yesterday morning with Michael Rutter leading the way from Jeremy Toye and Ian Hutchinson. It is believed the grid for Saturday's race will be taken from the practice timesheets if qualifying does not happen later.
